Checked 20 October 2026 against the Income-tax Act 2025 (sections 17, 19, 156, 202 and 516), the Budget 2026 papers, EPFO notification S.O. 5109(E) and state professional tax schedules. How we check.
Assumes one employer for the whole year, no ESI (salary above ₹21,000 a month), no benefits in kind and no other income. Monthly figures are the yearly amounts divided by 12. Why in-hand is less than CTC.
These figures are estimates based on the information you entered and the rules for tax year 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act 2025 as it stands after Budget 2026, EPFO notifications and state professional tax schedules. They are general information, not tax, financial or legal advice. Your actual in-hand salary can differ, for example because of your company's salary structure, variable pay, PF rules, your regime choice, TDS timing or your state. Check your payslip, or ask your payroll team or a chartered accountant, before relying on these figures.
₹24 lakh pays ₹2,40,050 income tax a year in the new regime
Your gross salary is ₹21,98,280. Take off the ₹75,000 standard deduction and your taxable income is ₹21,23,280, rounded to the nearest ₹10. Under the new regime the slab tax on that is ₹2,30,820; the estimated payslip shows each slab.
Add the 4% health and education cess and the tax for the year is ₹2,40,050, which your employer deducts as TDS at about ₹20,004 a month.
The new regime leaves ₹30,070 more a year at 24 LPA
| Income tax a year | In-hand a month | |
|---|---|---|
| New regime (default) | ₹2,40,050 | ₹1,50,978 |
| Old regime, PF and standard deduction only | ₹4,29,560 | ₹1,35,185 |
| Old regime with ₹1.5 lakh 80C, ₹25,000 health insurance and rent equal to your HRA (at most ₹50,000 a month) | ₹2,70,120 | ₹1,48,472 |
At 24 LPA the new regime leaves you the most in hand, ₹30,070 a year more than the old regime even with the usual deductions.
You choose the regime each year when you file your return; tell your employer at the start of the year so TDS matches. Compare regimes with your own deductions.

Why your payslip may differ
Employers split the same CTC in different ways. A lower basic means less PF and more cash in hand; a variable component you do not fully receive means less. Professional tax is often taken unevenly, such as ₹300 in February in Maharashtra and Karnataka, and TDS can change month to month as your employer updates its estimate of your yearly income.
